Pizza Journey

On a cool Summer’s day i headed to my  friends dad’s cattle farm on a mission to catch Yabbies. We met earlier to sort nets, ice and beer for our day’s mission and arrived at the farmgate ready to catch our tasty quarry. With the nets set in 3 of the dams we waited and enjoyed a cold beer and went exploring with camera in hand. A few beers later and some pics of the farm surrounds, shearing shed and graveyard we decided to check the nets. It was a minimal catch but certainly enough to enjoy on some pizzas.

We packed up shop and headed home and I got busy in the kitchen. As a member of Slice Serious Eats a NY based pizza blog i uploaded the details below on the pizza that we created.

The below is the description of the pie I made that was posted to Slice Serious Eats

“Using the Foolproof Pan Pizza dough recipe with the NY Style Sauce, at 520ºF for 12 minutes, this pizza with locavore ingredients was the best yet. Yabbies are freshwater crayfish that are found in backwater creeks and dams in southern Australia. All you need is a friend with a dam and some cold beverages to while away the day whilst you catch your quarry. Other ingredients cherry tomatoes, basil, onions were grown in my garden. Best pizza base and sauce so far!”

The Slice editors gave some good feedback and was a great day’s journey to the hills finished with beers and pizza!
