Pizza Journey

Heading home for lunch today I spied that half the street was closed. A tree-lopping crew were busy taking down a Queensland Box Tree on our street. Im not sure if the recent storms had shaken it from it’s foundation or whether it had become rotten. I certainly didn’t notice it being sick.

After a tasty steak for lunch I drove past the crew as they were finishing up. They had kinly cut all the limbs and trunk into pieces that could be taken away. And there was our trusty neighbourhood old Italian man, complete with sack trolley trying to get away with a piece. I gave him a wave and drove back to work. After about an hour at work going over the pile in my mind I raced back, parked alongside, and proceeded to load as much into the boot as I could whilst the old men watched on. I grabbed enough without looking too greedy – with every intention of getting some more after work.

I let my mate Nick know about the wood and that i’d let him know when I got home from work so that he could bring his ute and make getting more so much easier. Unfortunately when I got home, it was all gone bar some pieces of bark and wood chips. Oh well – I got away with 4 barrows worth and over the next 12 months it will dry nicely for next summer’s oven firing.
