The week started with a day by day block laying challenge. I promised myself to stack a layer each day after work. Doesn’t sound like much – but with limited time and sunshine after work it was a good goal. By Thursday night I was done, next operation was core filling madness.
Up early to visit my new friends at Kennards Hire at 7.00am to get myself a cement mixer for this morning’s efforts. Next stop was Forster’s to purchase 700kg of sand and gravel mix and 5 bags of cement. Today I’m core filling the besser blocks with approx 1tonne of concrete (.6m2). Im guessing that once I’m finished it will be Cyclone Tracy, Thermonuclear and possibly kid proof.
I kicked the mixer into life at 9.01am and for 4 hours it was a ballet frantic shovelling, mixing and bucketing the mix into the cores.
Amazingly the blocks are all still level – especially after seeing the bubble on the level when we finally had the courage to check the slab.
Next step is the Hebel slab top, then it’s render time and construction of the polished concrete preparation tables.
